BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting between two men that were related to one another.

Deputies say they were dispatched to a home on Fort Dade Avenue in Brooksville around 12:21 a.m. regarding reports of two people being shot.

When deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said they found two men lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds; both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say a firearm was also found a few feet away from the men in the road.

According to a preliminary investigation, the sheriff’s office said the men, who were related to one another, have had a very close relationship and would disagree on occasion but would reconcile within days.

Recently, however, deputies say the disagreements became more frequent.

The sheriff’s office said after most family members went to bed, the victim and suspect were heard arguing. Since this was not uncommon, family members were not alarmed.

Deputies say within minutes, family members heard gunshots and rushed outside to check on them and found the men in the road. An individual of the family called 911 for help.

According to the sheriff’s office investigation, the argument escalated, bringing the suspect to pull out a handgun and shooting the victim. Deputies say the suspect then used the same gun to take his own life.

Autopsy results are currently pending.
