There’s been another data breach, possibly affecting customers that used a credit card at five Tampa Bay area stores.
In this latest data breach, the personal information for 5 million customers at Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks OFF FIFTH, and Lord & Taylor may have been ripped off by hackers.
There are four Saks OFF FIFTH stores and one Saks Fifth Avenue store in the Tampa Bay area.
On Monday, Hudson’s Bay Co., which owns the stores, confirmed the data breach and stated that it has been contained. According to the statement, the breach affected in-store purchases only. It’s not believed that Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers or PINs were affected.
A customer hotline is being established to assist those impacted by the data breach, however, it won’t be available until Wednesday. Specific stores impacted by the breach haven’t been identified yet.
Hudson’s Bay Co. says it will offer free identity protection services – including credit and web monitoring – to customers whose information was stolen.
It’s believed the hackers behind this attack also pulled off previous data breaches at Whole Foods, Chipotle, Omni Hotels and Resorts, and Trump hotels.
Anyone who shopped at one of the stores is encouraged to review their account statements and contact their card issuers immediately if they identify activity or transactions they do not recognize.
