A tropical wave near the Bahamas could bring a chance of rain to the Tampa Bay area on Labor Day.

The National Hurricane Center is giving the tropical wave an 80 percent chance of tropical development in the next five days.

“We’re watching it closely—but the impacts on Labor Day Monday for the Tampa Bay area will be the same regardless of development. The disturbance will pass by to our south pulling deep tropical moisture northward above us. Expect a breezy day with extra clouds and higher rain chances as it passes by to our south,” said Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Ian Oliver.

“Further development is possible to our west out in the Gulf and the system could bring greater impacts to the central Gulf coast by the middle of next week.”
