TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — With hurricane season in full swing and a state of emergency declared for 24 Florida counties ahead of Hurricane Ian, here are the locations where Tampa Bay residents can pick up sandbags.
We will add more counties to this list as they release their sandbag locations. As of publishing, only the following counties have provided that information to News Channel 8.
Hillsborough County
The City of Tampa will open three sandbag sites on Sunday at 9 a.m.
- Himes Avenue Complex – 4501 S. Himes Avenue, Tampa, FL 33611
- Al Barnes Park – 2902 N. 32nd Street, Tampa, FL 33605
- MacFarlane Park – 1700 N MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL 33607 (Site between Maxwell and Renfrew)
The city said it will provide bags and shovels and volunteers will be on site to assist anyone who needs help filling their bags. Residents must show proof they reside within the city limits (driver’s license or utility bill is acceptable proof).
There is a limit of 10 bags per household.
Sandbags will be available for all Hillsborough County residents at the following locations:
- Plant City: Medard Park – 6140 Edward Medard Pkwy.
- Ruskin: EG Simmons – 2401 19th Ave. NW
- Tampa: Ed Radice Sports Complex: 14720 Ed Radice Dr.
The above locations will be open at the following times:
- Sunday, 9/25 – 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Monday, 9/26 – 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, 9/27 – 7 a.m. – p.m.
Pinellas County
- Sandbags will be given out in St. Petersburg Monday from 8 a.m. to sundown and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until weather concerns cause them to stop. St. Pete residents can get up 10 bags at
- Lake Maggiore, 3601 Dr. MLK Jr. St. S
- Northeast Park, 875 62nd Avenue NE
- Northwest Pool, 2331 60th Street N
- Pinellas Park is providing self-service sites for residents to get 10 sandbags each. It has sites at:
- Helen Howarth Park: 6401 94th Ave N. Pinellas Park, FL – Sunday (9/25) hours 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm and Monday (9/26) hours 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
- Pinebrook Park: 7202 118th Ave N. Pinellas Park, FL – Sunday (9/25) hours 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm and Monday (9/26) hours 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
- Broderick Park: 6101 66th Ave N. Pinellas Park, FL – Sunday hours (9/25) 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm and Monday (9/26) hours 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
- Sandbags will be available in Dunedin starting Sunday. You can pick this up at the Highlander Pool parking lot at 903 Michigan Blvd. Sandbags will be available for Dunedin residences and business owners with proof of residency (driver’s license or utility bill). You can get up to 15 bags per resident, and shovels will be available as well.
- Sandbags will be available at Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex in Clearwater on Sunday. City workers will be on site from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help residents if they need assistance filling bags. After that, the city will leave sand and bags for residents to fill themselves, as long as supplies last.
Sandbag distribution locations for all county residents open Sunday and Monday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., or until supplies run out:
- Palm Harbor: John Chesnut Sr. Park: 2200 East Lake Road
- Seminole: Walsingham Park: 12615 102nd Ave.
- St. Petersburg: Lealman Exchange, 5175 45th St N.
The City of Gulfport is offering a self-service sandbag location at the 49th Street Neighborhood Center, 1617 49th Street South. It will remain open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as weather permits. There is 10 bag limit and proof of residency may be required.
Polk County
Sandbags will be given out in Polk County starting this Sunday at Roadway Maintenance Units. Locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day until it is no longer safe to be outside.
Residents can get a maximum of 10 sandbags for each household. You can pick them up at:

Hernando County
The following sandbag locations will open Sunday, September 25 beginning at noon:
- Linda Pedersen Park – 6300 Shoal Line Blvd., Spring Hill, FL 34609
- Anderson Snow Park – 1360 Anderson Snow Rd., Spring Hill, FL 34609
The county said a limited supply of sand and sandbags will be available at these locations. You are asked to bring your own shovel.
Pasco County
Four sandbag sites are now open in Pasco County to help protect your property from floodwaters:
- W.H. Jack Mitchell, Jr., Park: 4825 Little Road, New Port Richey
- Veterans Memorial Park: 14333 Hicks Road, Hudson
- Magnolia Valley Golf Course: 7223 Massachusetts Avenue, New Port Richey
- Pasco County Public Works (C-Barn): 30908 Warder Road, San Antonio
Two more sites will open Saturday at 8 a.m.:
- Land O’ Lakes Recreation Center, 3032 Collier Parkway, Land O’ Lakes
- Wesley Chapel District Park, 7727 Boyette Road, Wesley Chapel
Sandbag sites are self-serve and open 24/7 to Pasco County residents. The county says sandbags are provided, but you must bring your own shovels to fill the bags. Crews will restock sand daily.
Sarasota County
Sarasota County will begin sandbag operations Sunday, Sept. 25 from noon to 6 p.m. at three locations.
- Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th Street, Sarasota.
- Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota.
- South County Fleet, 4571 SR 776/Englewood Road, Venice.
Shovels and bags will be available on site. The county says there is a limit 10 sandbags per vehicle.
Manatee County
Manatee County is offering several sandbag sites, all open through 5 p.m. Monday. Some locations offer pre-filled bags, while others are self-service. There is a limit of 10 bags per household and ID is required.

Citrus County
Two county sandbag sites will be opened on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. in preparation for lan. Additional times and dates will be announced as needed:
