TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Ian weakened to a tropical storm Thursday morning as it moved across Florida and toward the East Coast, battering the state after making landfall as a Category 4 hurricane near Cayo Casto Wednesday around 3 p.m. local time.

However, it later regained strength after emerging over the Atlantic on its path to South Carolina.
