Tracking the Tropics: Tropical Depression 7 quickly moving west

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tropical Depression 7 has formed just east of the Lesser Antilles in the Atlantic Ocean.

“It will slowly strengthen as it takes a path similar to Fred through the middle of next week. It would get the name Grace,” said Storm Team 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann.

According to the 11 p.m. advisory from the NHC, tropical storm conditions are “possible” in portions of the Leeward Islands late Saturday and through Sunday. As of that time, the storm is moving west near 21 miles per hour.

Sustained winds are reported at 35 miles per hour, with higher gusts.

“Some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight or on Saturday,” the NHC said in the 5 p.m. advisory.
