TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical Storm Karl has formed in the Bay of Campeche off the coast of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the NHC said the storm was about 195 miles east-northeast of Veracruz, Mexico, and about 215 miles east-southeast of Tuxpan, Mexico. The storm had max sustained winds of 40 mph and was moving northwest at 6 mph.
“It is expected to move slowly over the next several days to the northwest then southwest making landfall in eastern Mexico as a tropical storm,” meteorologist Eric Stone said. “Karl is not expected to strengthen much and will not impact Florida.”
The NHC said the storm would approach the coast of Mexico Thursday.
Parts of Mexico could see maximum rainfall totals of 6 to 10 inches of rain.
