TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A cold front moved through the Tampa Bay area on Thursday and brought with it threats of severe weather.
Tornado warnings were issued in several Tampa Bay area counties Thursday afternoon as radar tracked a powerful thunderstorm capable of tornadic activity. The last tornado warning for the Tampa Bay area expired at 3:30.
The entire Tampa Bay area was under a tornado watch through 5 p.m.
Our Max Defender 8 meteorologists tracked several rounds of rain and strong thunderstorms throughout the day as the front moved through.
“It is possible to see an isolated tornado or two in some of the stronger storms this afternoon and a warning may be issued,” Meteorologist Amanda Holly said.
The strongest storms will bring torrential rain that could lead to brief flooding in localized areas. Strong, gusty winds from 30 to 40 mph are possible within the storms as well. If a storm is severe, winds could be even stronger than that.
The threat for severe storms will be over by 6 or 7 p.m. Thursday for most areas.
