We have our first named storm of the 2019 Atlantic season – more than a week before the season officially begins!
Hurricane season doesn’t officially start until June 1. But Hurricane Hunters investigated a disturbance southwest of Bermuda Monday afternoon.
Data from an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft shows that area of low pressure has become Subtropical Storm Andrea.
Hurricane Hunters found winds of 40 mph within the storm that is now more organized.
The National Hurricane Center will begin issuing advisories on Andrea at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
“Regardless of development, this storm will be short-lived. A cold front will merge with the system on Wednesday and push it out into the open Atlantic” said News Channel 8 Meteorologist Ian Oliver. “Although Bermuda could see from disturbed weather, there is NO threat to Florida or the United States.”
Although this storm won’t impact Florida – this is a good reminder that Hurricane Season is coming quickly. Be sure to tune in to our Storm Team 8 Hurricane Special “Surviving The Storm” airing this Saturday at 7 p.m. on WFLA News Channel 8.
