TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — As part of 8 On Your Side’s Amanda Holly’s Reel Talk series, a well-known fishermen invited her to be a guest angler on his TV series ‘World of Saltwater Fishing’. Amanda fished with George Poveromo in the Florida keys on a fishing trip of a lifetime.
After her trip, she sat down with George in the News Channel 8 studios to talk about it and how he got started in fishing. His love of fishing began with his dad who took him fishing on the seawall catching small snappers and grunts and he was addicted.
After filming 24 seasons of ‘World of Saltwater Fishing’, George has been fortunate enough to fish some incredible places. Even after that, he says his favorite place to fish in right here in our local waters in Florida.
He told Amanda that, “it really takes a skillset and knowing the local waters to really make it click here, as well as over on the east coast, it really makes you feel that much more accomplished when you put together a good catch here locally.”
Amanda fished with George in December and targeted yellowtail snappers, king fish and Spanish mackerel. She will have future ‘Reel Talk’ episodes detailing her time in the keys but George said, “we had a ball catching yellowtails, they were coming fast and furious there for a while there.”
