SOUTH BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — Photos shared with WFLA.com from a Tampa resident who was vacationing in South Beach show just how quickly Florida weather can change.

Tiffany Duckett sent two photos that were taken this week in Miami at about the same time.

One photo shows storm clouds and lightning behind their beach chairs. The second photo, taken facing the other direction, shows blue skies and sun.

Duckett said she posted her photos on social media and got huge reactions from her friends.

“We’ve all heard the saying, ‘If you don’t like the weather in Florida, just wait 15 minutes,’ referring to how quickly we can go from sunny and hot to blinding downpours, and then back to sunny and hot,” News Channel 8 Meteorologist Rebecca Barry said. “This is because the types of showers and storms aren’t associated with a strong front, or a low-pressure system, which would mean widespread areas of rain that would last for a longer duration. These showers or storms are building up because of daytime heating, or forming along the sea breeze, both of which mean short-lived times of rain before getting back to that sunshine our state is famous for.”
