Thunderstorm Warning expires for parts of Polk, Highlands, Hardee and DeSoto counties

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for parts of Highlands, Hardee, Polk and DeSoto counties Sunday. The warnings have since expired at 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, the impacted locations were:

The NWS said the impacted areas could experience 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees and be expected as well.

For precaution, residents should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building.

Another typical rain season day across the Bay Area, with sun & clouds this morning, giving way to scattered storms after 2pm today. Rain chances 50%. They will be most widespread between 4-m and 8pm. Highs in the upper 80s.

Drier air will begin to move in on Monday. Still some spotty showers will be around later in the day mainly from Tampa south. Rain chances will come down to around 30%.

Little to no rain in the forecast with lots of sun on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs near 90.
