TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – We broke our afternoon high temperature record for today, we hit 86°, the previous record for today was 85° from 2001.
Temperatures are cooling down slowly tonight. Skies are clear now, but sea fog is expected to move inland late tonight and we may wake up to patchy fog on Friday morning. We may see reduced visibilities through 8am, especially along the coastline and to the north of I-4.
Our temperatures are mild, slowly cooling down out of the 70s and into the mid to upper 60s overnight.
Friday starts out nice and cool, with temperatures in the mid to low 60s. Under mostly sunny skies we will warm up quickly. By the lunch hour we will be warming into the low 80s. Friday will not be quite as warm as the past few days, due in part to a sea breeze building, keeping the coastline in the 70s while temperature away from the coast will warm into the mid 80s for the afternoon.
Friday evening will be lovely and mild, sinking down through the 70s. We will wake up to some patchy fog on Saturday morning with temperatures in the mid to low 60s. Saturday will be sunny and warm, with temperatures soaring into the mid to upper 80s.
Warm temperatures continue into the weekend, expect to warm into the mid to upper 80s on Saturday and Sunday. We will be slightly cooler on Monday, only warming into the mild upper 70s for the afternoon. Next week’s high temperatures will remain above average, but not quite as warm as we have been for the past few days.
There are many events happening outside this weekend. Thankfully, no rain is expected, but put on the sunscreen and stay hydrated. Whether you’re going to the Gasparilla Music Festival or the St. Pete Grand Prix, it’s going to feel toasty. Those of you running the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic will deal with muggy conditions during the race, so drink water along the route.
The warm afternoons are here to stay this week. We warm into the record challenging mid to upper 80s through the weekend.
Our only chance for showers is on Monday evening. We expect a few isolated showers around sunset on Monday, followed by slightly cooler temperatures for the beginning of next week. We will slowly warm into the low to mid 80s under partly cloudy skies. We expect to remain mostly dry for the majority of next week.
