TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Today was chilly and damp and the wet weather continues into the evening hours. We were chilly, spending the afternoon hovering around 50°. Today was what we call an upside down day, meaning that our temperatures were warmer during the early morning hours than they were during the afternoon. Today’s official high was 54°, but we saw those temperatures between 3-6a.m. During the day the temperatures slowly sunk down to around 50° where they hovered for the afternoon.
The consistent, mainly light rainfall was needed, but quite inconvenient for the day. By the early afternoon we saw .36″ of rainfall at the airport, but the heaviest showers were still offshore. By the time the rain ends around lunchtime on Wednesday, most areas will have picked up around an inch of rainfall.
The heaviest of the rain tapers off just after sunset, but lingering showers continue all night and into tomorrow morning. Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Wednesday starts off chilly with light showers. The rain should end after lunch, but the clouds will be persistent for the most part. Temperatures will warm into the low to mid 60s.
Thursday still looks like the best day- the most sunshine and temperatures rebound back into the upper 60s for the afternoon. It won’t be bone dry- an isolated shower may wander past, especially along and to the north of I-4.
The next front is set to arrive late Friday. This one will not bring as much rain, just a few spotty showers Friday afternoon and evening. The front passes early on Saturday, and the last of the rain clears out.
Shiver me timbers! Behind the front, cooler air arrives just in time for the Gasparilla Parade of Pirates Saturday afternoon. Highs will only be near 60 degrees, and we drop into the upper 30s to near 40 degrees Saturday night.
