TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Lightning are getting a new look on the ice. The team revealed its newest jersey on Thursday.

The new alternate jersey will be debuted during Thursday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche at Amalie Arena. This is the first time the team will have a third jersey since their “Disrupt the Night” jersey debuted during the 2018-19 season.

“We worked hard to develop a jersey that represents the fans and our brand while celebrating our franchise’s history and growth within the NHL.” Lightning chief venue officer Kevin Preast said. “Fan feedback was an essential part of the process of the creation of the jersey. We feel strongly our fans will be proud to show off the victory stripes to honor the organization’s legacy.”

The team said the new third jersey is a tribute to the legacy of the Lightning.

“The look combines a throwback black sweater featuring the current shoulder patch logo on the crest – a first for the organization – with three victory stripes on the sleeves, harkening back to the franchise’s original jersey system in 1992, which featured the stripes under the arm,” the team said in a news release.

The Bolt’s Stanley Cup Championship years are also woven into the collar of the sweater.

The Lightning will wear the new third jersey seven times this season. Players will continue to wear it for the next two seasons.
