On the eve of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Blake Snell is soaking it in.
Snell joined his fellow American League all-stars for a media session on Monday.
He grew up in Seattle, watching his Mariners heroes play in All-Star Games, namely the “Kid,” Ken Griffey Jr. Now, Snell is taking the same walk that his childhood hero took part in several times.
“It’s amazing. It truly is,” Snell said. “It’s something I looked forward to as a kid since I was watching the “Kid” (Griffey) play. I’m excited just being in the room with all these guys. It’s pretty thrilling.”
Snell was not only added to the American League roster last week, he will play a prominent role in the game. Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch announced that Snell will pitch third in Tuesday night’s game, behind starter Chris Sale from the Boston Red Sox and Luis Severino of the New York Yankees.
