Just hours after the Tampa Bay Rays traded starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to the Boston Red Sox, a second deal was announced.
And there will be more to come.
Pitcher Matt Andriese was sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for a pair of minor league players: catcher Michael Pérez and pitcher Brian Shaffer.
Andriese spent parts of four seasons with the Rays, in and out of a starting role and starting in four games in 2018. He posted a 3-4 record in 27 appearances this season.
Pérez is a 25-year-old player recently named the Diamondbacks top defensive catcher, according to Baseball America. He could be activated quickly to the Rays active roster.
Shaffer is 7-5 with a 2.70 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 19 starts in Class-A.
