The Lakeland Dreadnaughts won their seventh state championship on Friday night at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. They completed a perfect season, finishing with 15 wins.

They defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, who won the state title in 2006.

The Dreadnaughts won it in 2006 and, coincidentally, they defeated St. Thomas Aquinas to do it.

“This is the best ever. I do not know if it is my age or what. They got an unbelievable team and we beat a great football team tonight. I am just proud of our kids,” head coach Bill Castle told us, just moments after the victory. “It was a tremendous effort and all of our fans up there, they deserve this. They have been supporting us all year long and it is a great win for us and our program.”

“I have been with these guys all year,” said winning quarterback Dywonski McWilliams. “Sweat, blood, and tears, and we just stay together and we play as a team. We never let each other down. We know, each of us has each other’s backs.”
