TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers regular season is right around the corner, and while the team has been perfecting plays and leaning into their new roles, there’s one position that hasn’t been filled – the starting quarterback.

When the Bucs signed veteran QB Baker Mayfield in the offseason, fans assumed he’d be the starter. But as the preseason progressed, head coach Todd Bowles made it clear that QB Kyle Trask won’t be ruled out as a starter.

While Mayfield has the NFL game reps under his belt, Trask already has chemistry with several of his Bucs’ offensive teammates, thus putting the two quarterbacks in a competition for the role.

Since Bowles has yet to announce who the official starter will be, come Sept. 11, Your Official Bucs Station, News Channel 8, is asking Bucs’ fans who they would like to see as Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback.

Ahead of Saturday night’s preseason game, Mayfield was in the lead, but after Trask made impressive plays, including a 33-yard deep ball to Trey Palmer, who ran for a touchdown, Trask pulled ahead to lead.

Although the poll is still ongoing on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the conclusion of the game, WFLA Online will no longer be counting votes.

With that being said, the final votes are in, and Bucs fans have spoken. According to our poll, the fans would like to see Kyle Trask as their starting QB, but it was a tight race.

Out of 1,398 votes, Trask garnered 54.5% of the votes, while Mayfield had 45.6% of the votes.

The Bucs defeated the Jets 13-6, clinching their first preseason win of the year. In addition to Tampa Bay’s defense forcing three turnovers, both sides of the field played significantly better than their first preseason matchup against the Steelers last Friday.

Tampa Bay will be back in action next Saturday as they host the Baltimore Ravens at Raymond James Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Fans can watch the game only on WFLA News Channel 8, Your Official Bucs Station.
