TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter is not one to sugar coat harsh facts, but he needed something to tell his team before the players departed for the Bucs’ bye week.
So, Koetter used an old philosophy preached by hall of fame coach Bill Parcells.
“You are what your record says you are.”
Through four games, the Bucs are 2-2, tough to consider after Sunday’s humiliating 48-10 loss to the Chicago Bears.
But at 2-2, the Bucs sit one game out of first place in the NFC South.
Their next game is another division road game, this time against the Atlanta Falcons.
When the Bucs hit the field in week 6, in Atlanta, Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback.
During this week’s exclusive News Channel 8 “Koetter’s Korner” interview, Koetter said it was going to be the plan regardless of Sunday’s outcome.
In fact, the halftime switch to Winston over quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was decided because the score was 38-3 Bears and Koetter saw no harm in letting Winston get his time in the offense started a little early.
The result was Winston completing 16 of 20 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. Winston also threw two interceptions.
The Bucs defense is also a hot topic for fans after allowing the Bears’ quarterback to have a career day, passing for six touchdowns.
“Communication” was a word tossed around the locker room after the game.
On Monday, Koetter said that the defense’s issues go way beyond communication.
News Channel 8, Your Official Bucs Station, presents “Koetter’s Korner” each Monday during the season at 6 p.m. as well as online.
