TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are close to adding another high-profile offensive weapon to quarterback Tom Brady’s arsenal, according to multiple reports.
ESPN reporter Adam Schefter says the Buccaneers have reached a deal with Antonio Brown. The news comes less than an hour after Schefter started reporting that the Buccaneers had quietly been working toward an agreement with the free-agent wide receiver.
“Antonio Brown and the Buccaneers have reached agreement on a one-year deal, per sources,” Schefter said. “Language still has to be finalized, COVID protocols passed, but Brown is likely to make his Bucs’ debut in Week 9 against the Saints.”
Schefter had previously tweeted that Brown was flying to Tampa Friday night and was scheduled to visit with the Buccaneers on Saturday.
According to ESPN, Brown had also been in discussion with the Seattle Seahawks but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently “emerged as the favorites.”
Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network and NFL.com said Brown’s move to Tampa Bay was being pushed by Brady.
Brown played with Brady in 2019 during his stint with the New England Patriots. Brown also played with the Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The wide receiver was suspended for the first eight weeks of the 2020 NFL season for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy.
