WASHINGTON D.C. (WFLA/KVLY) – A North Dakota man holds a world record that will be tough to top.

His 17 foot, 6 inch beard is the longest beard recorded in history.

It belongs to Hans Langseth, a North Dakota farmer, who died in 1927.

The beard is on display at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.

According to Langseth’s children, his final wish was to have his beard cut off and stored for posterity.

Before his casket was buried, his son cut off his father’s beard.

Forty years later, Langseth’s family donated it to the Smithsonian Institute.

Officials say there are still crumbs in his beard.
