MELBOURNE, Fla. – First responders in Brevard County treated a 42-year-old woman who was attacked by a shark while swimming in waist-deep water in Melbourne Beach, officials said.
It happened at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near the Ebb Tide Condos of Melbourne Beach. The woman was bitten once on her thigh and once on her left hand, according to a Brevard County Fire Rescue spokesperson.
Ocean rescue crews were called in to control the bleeding. The woman was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center.
“She kind of walked on her own power to some extent, and they took her on a gurney when they got over to the steps. But yeah, she seemed like she wasn’t terribly injured,” a witness told WESH 2 News.RELATED: Katherine the Great White Shark returns to Central Florida
