WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Former President Donald Trump leapt closer to the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday night, defeating his lone remaining rival, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley in New Hampshire.

Trump defeated Haley in the first-in-the-nation primary in New Hampshire, following his 30-point victory in last week’s Iowa caucuses.

“She did very poorly actually. The governor said she’s gonna win she’s gonna win she’s gonna win. And then she failed,” said Trump.

Haley is the only Republican still challenging Trump for the GOP nomination.

She worked to pull in independent and anti-Trump voters, something the former president pushed back on.

But even with a disappointing loss she vowed to press on.

“This race is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go,” Haley said.

Haley says she’s better suited to take on President Biden in November.

“The worst kept secret in politics is how badly the Democrats want to run against Donald Trump,” she said.

The race moves on to Haley’s home state of South Carolina, where early polling shows Trump with a lead.
