PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Pinellas County School board members are looking into an incident involving a student at Osceola Middle school and several of the teachers that work there.
Educators complained to school leaders and administration after several of them received vulgar and inappropriate voice messages from a student.
One teacher claims the calls have been happening since December. She didn’t expect to receive one at her home.
The voicemail starts out,” “Hey Ms. ———, this is one of your student’s friends.”
The student goes on to say, “They told me to say, you’re a bad ——– teacher. You need a ———- in your life.”
The message is laced with inappropriate name calling, sexually explicit innuendos and racial slurs.
The person on the line is an actual student at the school, according to district officials.
“You’re a ——— teacher and you suck ———— while eating ————-.”
Pinellas Co. school leaders confirm several teachers received similar voice mails.
Parents picking up their children from school were appalled.
“It’s disturbing, it really is.”
Administrators are looking into why he called the teachers and how he got a hold of their information.
District representative Lisa Wolf, said student will be punished.
“The student will be disciplined using our student code of conduct as our guide and as an additional layer of support for the teachers involved, we’ve decided to change the student’s schedule so that the student will not be interacting with those teachers anymore,” she said.
But, he will remain at the campus, which is an issue some teachers are uncomfortable with.
“When schools hand out discipline, they have to think about what best for their school communities, safety obviously, but they also have to think about what’s best for the student,” said Wolf.
“I know this can be concerning for teachers and we certainly sympathize with that. We want them to know if they have concerns, they can work with their school and their school is willing to hear those concerns and work with them directly.”
