ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – More than 1,000 volunteers and 85 groups spent Saturday giving back. The volunteers participated in various projects, yard work, painting, minor home repairs, neighborhood cleanups and more throughout St. Petersburg neighborhoods on Saturday. The efforts are part of CareFest St. Pete 2016.
The day of service benefits individual homeowners, neighborhoods, parks, and non-profit organizations.
“Carefest is a day where you go back and you care about your city and the people that live in it and you work to make a difference,” Ron Motyka said. Motyka and some of his neighbors rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
mowing and cleaning up debris at the greenwood cemetery. “We’re from the Roser Park Neighborhood Association which adjoins it. We’re making a difference to show respect for the people that came before us,” Motyka said.
Volunteers devoted their Saturday to various projects like yard work, minor home repairs, and cleanups throughout St. Pete neighborhoods.
“There’s something cool about coming together and helping out for a good cause,” said Weston Willingham, a volunteer with St. Pete High School’s Interact Club. Members of various rotary clubs and Interact spruced up this house with a fresh coat of paint.
“To come out here and be able to help someone in need, and beautify this house, that means everything in the world to us/ That’s what we do,” said Rotary member Allen Collins.
“We all love St. Pete and want to see it get better,” Willingham said.
