Viral video shows police officer repeatedly punching woman on New Jersey beach

WILDWOOD, NJ (WFLA/NBC) – A police investigation is underway in New Jersey after a disturbing video of an officer punching a woman on the beach went viral.

The video shows one officer in Wildwood repeatedly punch Emily Weinman, 20, in the head, as another officer holds her down.

People on the beach yell at her to stop resisting before officers finally placed her under arrest.

Authorities say the video doesn’t tell the whole story, saying the officer was assaulted first, kicked in the groin before Weinman took off running.

Weinman said in a Facebook post she was approached for underage drinking.

She said she admitted to having alcohol and claims to have passed a breathalyzer test.

Weinman refused to give her name to the officers and says that’s what led to her arrest.

Weinman is facing charges including assault, spitting on an officer, resisting arrest and having alcohol underage.

The officers involved have been reassigned to administrative duty.

Police will released body camera video showing the officers being insulted and spat on.
