A Massachusetts man is under arrest and facing several charges, including OUI, after crashing his car into a utility pole on in Dartmouth Saturday night.
Police and rescue crews were called to the 100 block of Chase Rd around 5:30 p.m. for a report of a crash.
Investigators had to shut the road down because of the pole was severed as a result of the impact.
While officers were questioning the driver, identified as Keith Avila, 34, of New Bedford, officials described his actions as being “belligerent”. As a result, he was taken into custody.
While at Dartmouth Police Headquarters, investigators say Avila threatened officers, vandalized town property, struck his own head against a bathroom wall, and urinated in a trash can while handcuffed to the booking room wall. Police blurred out a portion of his mugshot, in which he is seen giving officers the middle finger.
Avila was is facing several charges, including operating under the influence of liquor and vandalism. He also received a town by-law violation for having an open container of marijuana inside his car.
