ROCHESTER, NY (WFLA/WHEC) – The National Toy Hall of Fame has announced its inductees for the class of 2018.
The Magic 8 Ball, pinball and the card game “UNO” are the trio that will join the 65 previous honorees in the hall, which is located at “The Strong Museum” in Rochester, New York.
That’s where the announcement was made Thursday morning.
UNO was invented nearly 50 years ago and its simplicity has made it work for children as well as adults.
Pinball has also been around for decades and has experienced a bit of a renaissance in recent years.
The Magic 8 Ball has been around since 1946. It had been a finalist for the hall six times before, but the seventh time proved to be the charm.
Anyone can nominate a toy for the national hall of fame, but a museum advisory committee whittles the list to 12.
Then, a panel of historians, educators and others make the final pick.
Toys that didn’t make the cut this year include Tickle Me Elmo, American Girl dolls and the game
Chutes and Ladders.”
