CHICAGO (WFLA/CNN) – A video of Chicago Police Department footage was leaked on social media that shows the fatal shooting an unarmed woman holding her baby.
The video is from a city camera and shows 24-year-old Brittany Hill holding her 1-year-old daughter in her arms before she is shot point blank slumped over behind the cover of a car clutching onto her child.
The Chicago Police Department is now investigating how the video ended up on social media.
A police spokesperson tells CBS Chicago “We have notified the state’s attorney’s office and opened an investigation to determine who electronically accessed the video and whether anything was released or compromised,” a department spokesperson stated.
Legal Analyst Irv Miller says the release of the video could make prosecuting those accused of the crime difficult.
“By having this leak, to have the public see it now, could result in problems later on at trial because jurors and were all potential jurors can’t be exposed to things like this prior to the trial,” Miller said.
Police have now charged 39-year-old Michael Washington and 23-year-old Eric Adams in connection with Hill’s death.
The person responsible for leaking the video could also face felony charges of official misconduct.
