According to findings done by the U.K. paper The Metro on a random sampling of U.K. McDonald’s touch screens, every single one tested positive for fecal bacteria,
The paper reports that swabs were taken from eight McDonald’s restaurant’s locations in the U.K. six in London and two in Birmingham. In reaction to the study, London Metropolitan University Dr. Paul Matewele said: ‘We were all surprised how much gut and fecal bacteria there was on the touchscreen machines. These cause the kind of infections that people pick up in hospitals.”
Other bacteria found on the screens included Listeria, Klebsiella, and Staphylococcus.
In response to the report released by the Metro, a McDonald’s rep commented “our self-order screens are cleaned frequently throughout the day. All of our restaurants also provide facilities for customers to wash their hands before eating.”
