ORLANDO, FL — All lanes of I-4 in Orlando have reopened after an overnight crash that claimed two lives early Tuesday morning.
For hours, all westbound lanes of the interstate were shut down at Sand Lake Road. The crash happened near mile marker 73 in Orlando around 3:30 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a green 2000 Honda van was heading east in the westbound lanes of I-4 and collided head-on with a 2007 Toyota taxi.
According to FHP, the driver of the Honda van had a bottle of Hennessy liquor in the passenger seat next to him. Troopers identified the driver of the Honda as 44-year-old Fernando Clemente III, of Orlando.
The taxi driver killed was identified as 39-year-old Harold Fabre of Orlando.
After the crash, westbound traffic was being forced to exit I-4 at Sand Lake Road, but all lanes have since reopened.
This past Saturday a wrong way crash took the lives of two people in Tampa, as well, including a Hillborough County Sheriff’s deputy. FHP says Erik McBeth, 31, was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Selmon Expressway near Brandon when he struck HCSO Deputy John Robert Kotfila Jr. Both men were killed.
