TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – While polls indicate this will not be a good night for Donald Trump in Wisconsin, the candidate’s campaign is painting a different picture.
“We’ve already projected that Donald Trump is going to win zero delegates. So if Donald Trump wins a single delegate, it makes it mathematically impossible for Ted Cruz to win this race. Really all the pressure is on Ted Cruz,” Trump’s Florida campaign co-chair Joe Gruters said.
But some say the Wisconsin primary is all about momentum, especially after a tumultuous last few days on the campaign trail.
“Clearly Donald Trump had a very bad week last week. He hopes not to have a bad month,” Adam Goodman from The Victory Group, a communications strategy firm, said.
“You get a real measure of a person when you see what they do when they’re on the mat, how they come back from adversity. This could be one of those moments for Donald Trump. What does he do when he hits a bump? How does he react? How does he handle it moving forward?” Goodman asked.
Trump is coming off a week where he made controversial comments about women being punished for abortion. In addition, his campaign manager is facing misdemeanor battery charges.
“I think Donald Trump over six months into an active campaign should have the answer to some basic questions like your position on abortion. I think he learned Donald can be a little casual or careless,” Goodman said.
Trump’s campaign told News Channel 8 staff members are ready to get back to Trump’s message.
“Donald Trump is a man on a mission. He’s here to create jobs. He’s going to do everything he can to help average working class Americans,” Gruters said.
