TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A 31-year-old Tampa man is facing multiple charges after crash that left a motor scooter rider in critical condition Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. at the intersection of MLK Boulevard and Coconut Palm Drive.

The Highway Patrol said a Toyota Camry was trying to passing a motor scooter in the inside eastbound lane of MLK. The driver hit the brakes, but did not stop in time and rear-ended the scooter.

The rider was thrown from the scooter and sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to Tampa General Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

Troopers said the Camry driver, Devin Robert Oder, showed signs of impairment, but refused a breath test.

He was arrested and charged with DUI serious injury, DUI property damage, DUI 3rd in 10 years and refusing a breath test.
