Keystone residents want turning lane, get new traffic light

Each week, traffic reporter Meredyth Censullo tackles your commute complaints in her “Road Rants” report.

This week’s rant comes from a viewer named Laura, who emailed to say a left turn lane, and traffic signal, are desperately needed at Race Track Road and S. Mobley Road in the Keystone area of western Hillborough County.

Employees at Laurel Oaks Nursery & Tree Farm, located at the intersection, agree with Laura, noting that drivers often round the curve on southbound Race Track Road and, rather than stopping for drivers attempting to turn left onto Mobley Road, they swerve on to the shoulder. Also, traffic stacks up on westbound Mobley Road, attempting to make a left turn onto Race Track Road.

The Hillsborough County Public Works Department told News Channel 8 it is aware of the community’s concerns, but long-term improvements to add turn lanes would require funding, land acquisition, engineering and permitting. However, the County’s agreed to a short-term improvement. Within 30-45 days, the county will add a five-section traffic signal to ease left-hand turns.

News Channel 8 will follow up to make sure the County delivers on its promise.
