Overturned fuel tanker shuts down part of I-75 in Sarasota County

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are at the scene of an overturned fuel tanker in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Sarasota County.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the fuel tanker overturned near mile marker 172 Tuesday, around 5 a.m. when a tire “experienced a catastrophic failure.” The tanker then exited the road and overturned onto the grassy shoulder.

Authorities said the driver was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

FHP said all southbound lanes are closed as crews work to assess the fuel leakage.

Drivers are being told to seek alternate routes.
