TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A deadly crash involving a person in a wheelchair closed part of a busy Tampa road on Thursday morning.
The crash happened at 4:24 a.m. on Hillsborough Avenue at Blue Springs Drive in the Town N’ Country area.
Florida Highway Patrol investigators say a man in a wheelchair was trying to cross Hillsborough Avenue west of Blue Springs Drive and entered the path of an Acura driven by Pedro Diaz, 28, of Tampa.
The 68-year-old man died at the scene of the crash. His identity has not been released.
The eastbound lanes of Hillsborough Avenue were closed at Blue Springs Drive while troopers investigated. The lanes were reopened around 7:35 a.m.
