TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — All lanes of both the Gandy Bridge and the Selmon Expressway connector have reopened after an aviation fuel tanker crashed Tuesday afternoon.

Tampa police said the fuel tanker overturned on Westshore Boulevard and Gandy Boulevard, causing the bridge to be closed from Pinellas to Hillsborough County.

According to Tampa Fire Rescue public information officer Vivian McIlrath, the container had 8,000 gallons of fuel and 1,200 were recovered when the leak was stopped.

Thankfully no one was injured in the crash.

As of this writing, the Selmon extension is open. The extension is the ONLY route to get to Pinellas side. According to Tampa police as of 10 p.m. westbound Gandy is closed and will remain closed from Manhattan to Westshore.

TPD says extra equipment is being brought in to help clean up the spill, and the work will not be done by 11 p.m.
