ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Two teenagers are at a hospital after a scooter and a sedan collided in St. Petersburg Friday evening.
It happened at about 10 p.m. near 54th Avenue North and 22nd Street North. Stephanie Mendez, 26, was driving her Camry going east on 54th. She stopped at the intersection waiting for the light to make a left turn.
A 17-year-old scooter rider who had a passenger, also 17, didn’t stop for the red light and hit the Camry that was turning. According to St. Petersburg Police report, Mendez didn’t see the scooter.
The teens were taken to Bayfront Health. The scooter driver had life-threatening injuries, but his passenger’s injuries were minor.
Mendez was not injured.
