Tampa Traffic Delays: 35,000 expected daily at Comic Con Aug. 5-7

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you drive in the downtown Tampa area, you can expect traffic to be slow this weekend and you might even see some costumed Comic Con attendees out and about.

35,000 people are expected to attend Comic Con each day this weekend, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Comic Con will be taking place at the Tampa Convention Center starting Friday August 5 at 12 p.m.  The event will continue until  5 p.m. on Sunday, August 7.

Police say the community should expect traffic congestion as well as increased pedestrian traffic around the Convention Center during this time.

Comic Con attendees have been asked to use Riverwalk for access to the Tampa Convention Center to help reduce pedestrian traffic on city streets.

If you travel or work in the area, police suggest you plan ahead for possible delays and use caution or avoid the area is possible.

With the expected high Comic Con attendance, the downtown garages will be at a maximum. Police suggest you use the map below for alternative parking options.
