TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Love is in the air on this Valentine’s day here in Tampa as couples prepare to take time to celebrate with their “special someone”.
The holiday isn’t just about love – it means big business for shops and restaurants, like Datz Dough in south Tampa.
A Tampa resident Stephanie stopped in first thing this Valentine’s Day morning to grab a variety of goodies, like heart-shaped chocolates, lollipops, doughnuts and cookies.
“Everything looked so amazing, it was hard to choose!” said Stephanie.
From cookies to cakes to doughnuts, the artisan bakery whipped up dozens of treats for lovebirds looking to indulge.
“We have a strawberry champagne cupcake, a 5-layer red velvet cake, sugar cookies and specialty heart-shaped doughnuts,” said Datz Dough general manager Tina Contes.
“We have boozy milkshakes, which are really fun for a day date!” added Contes.
About a third of couples surveyed by fatwallet.com said they will be dining out this Valentine’s Day. More than half said they’ll buy candy as well.RELATED: Valentine’s Day Deals 2016
Dinner, sweets, flowers and gifts – combine it all together and the average American will spend $146 dollars this year on the day of love, according to the National Retail Federation.
