LUTZ, FL (WFLA) — A Tampa Bay Storm player and former Boston College football player was killed when a vehicle he was driving crashed into a home on Lutz Lake Fern Road in Lutz early Thursday morning.
According to officials, the driver, identified as 26-year-old Maxwell Trent Holloway of Lutz, was killed. Max Holloway is the son of NFL player Brian Holloway.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says Holloway was driving a 2008 Black Dodge Charger westbound on Lutz Lake Fern Road around 2:30 a.m., when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and struck a utility pole. The car then flipped, struck several trees and smashed into the garage of the home.
No one in the home — located at 4202 Sandy Shores Drive — was injured.
Holloway was a football standout at Jefferson High School and went on to play at Boston College, according to the Boston College Athletics website. He was a player on the Tampa Bay Storm.
Tampa Bay Storm President released the following statement

Holloway was a former P.E. teacher and coach at Jefferson High School from 2013-2015. He helped out with various sports teams at the school. Grief counselors available for students and staff Thursday.
“He was all the things that were good about football. He was one of the hardest workers, like many Dragons that have gone on to do good things. You didn’t see how hard he worked. After practice max would go and run ten 100 yard dashes,” said Jefferson High School Coach Danny Lea. “I’m devastated. He was a great guy, I knew his dad, I knew his little brother. Max was a part of our football family. He was part of my family.”
Boston College also shared condolences, writing on their website:
“We are all shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic news,” said Boston College head coach Steve Addazio. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Max’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Holloway was a three-year letterman for the Eagles from 2009-11. He earned his degree in 2011 and declared early for the NFL Draft in January of 2012.
“The entire Boston College Athletic Department sends their prayers and condolences to Max’s family and friends,” said Boston College Athletic Director Brad Bates. “We are all devastated to hear the news of Max’s untimely passing.”
He finished fourth on the team in 2011 in tackles (47) and totaled eight TFLs, 2.5 sacks, three pass break-ups and one interception.
For his career, he played in 34 games and finished with 99 tackles, 24.5 TFLs and 7.5 sacks.
Holloway is the son of NFL player Brian Holloway, who played 10 seasons in the NFL with the Patriots and Raiders. The BC website says his brother, David Holloway, is now a linebacker with the Arizona Cardinals.
