UPDATE: Police charged two teens, ages 13 and 17, in this case. The suspects are charged with dealing in stolen property, burglary and grand theft of the third degree. Police are searching for a third suspect.

PREVIOUS STORY: TAMPA, Fla.  (WFLA) – Tampa police are trying to find the people who stole two very expensive bicycles from the back of a truck.

It happened in early morning hours on Sunday in the Channelside District.

The bikes belong to Project Hero Central Florida, a veterans’ organization that helps wounded service men and women recover from their combat injuries by riding bicycles with others who have suffered similar injuries.

Police say the bicycles were in a truck, securely locked in a gated parking garage.

Nathan DeWalt, Regional Manager of Project Hero in Central Florida, said he had just returned home Saturday night from a veterans’ ride in Orlando.

The bikes are normally housed on the Clearwater campus of St. Petersburg College, but since the school is closed on Sunday, he secured the bikes in his truck. DeWalt lives in a high rise community only accessed by tenant’s or their guests.

The bikes are valued at $2,500 each are specially adapted to fit the needs of the injured veterans who ride them.
