Tampa group heads to Cuba with an eye on business

Angye Fox refers to herself as a “serial entrepreneur”.

She has established a number of businesses in the Bay Area.

Her next business adventure may be in Cuba.

On Thursday, Fox left Tampa International Airport bound for Havana.

“It’s been a dream of mine to someday go to Cuba and someday have this opportunity and be in this situation before things change dramatically which a lot of people expect as Americans get more infiltrated into Cuba as the years go by,” said Fox.

She is going to Cuba with a group of 20 people.

For many this will be there first trip to the communist nation.

” I think it’s on everybody’s bucket list, if it’s a place you’ve never been. So it’s also been like the forbidden fruit to us. We’re so close, it’s an hour flight away, but we haven’t been able to go there,” said Fox.

Her trip will take her to Cigar Plantations and Rum factories.

Fox sees opportunity to do more.

“Looking ahead to business opportunities in Cuba relating to bringing Americans in maybe on a regular basis, weekly basis for a golf, fishing, cigar type trip,” said Fox.

Her trip is being led by Barry Smith.

Smith was once a first round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers and played in the first season of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Smith is also looking forward to establishing more business between Tampa and Cuba.

“Well, that’s one of the reasons I go down there, looking for potential business opportunity because you’ve got to figure at some point this crazy embargo is going to be lifted,” said Smith.
