(WFLA) – People in Taiwan and on mainland China are preparing for Super Typhoon Meranti.
It only took 24 hours for the typhoon to strengthen from the equivalent of a Category 1 storm to a Category 5.
Meranti is forecast to make landfall along the southern tip of the island of Taiwan on Wednesday morning, according to a CNN report.
Most of the population lives on the other side of Taiwan.
Super Typhoon Meranti is an incredibly powerful cyclone w/ gusts up to 225 mph,” said Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Ian Oliver.
