(CNN) – A new study shows a connection between the use of hormonal contraceptives and increased depression risk, CNN reports.
The Danish researchers studied more than one million women between the ages of 15 and 34. They found that the women who used hormonal contraceptives including birth control pills or implants may be at higher risk of depression. The research was published in Jama Psychiatry.
The increased risk was at about 80 percent over those who didn’t use hormonal contraceptives, according to CNN.
The number was even higher for adolescent girls.
