DADE CITY, FL (WFLA) — Strong winds overnight damaged dozens of homes in the Country Aire Estates Mobile Home Park off U.S. 301 and 98 between Zephyrhills and Dade City, according to Pasco County Emergency Management.
Storm Team 8 Meteorologists say winds were recorded about 45-47 mph overnight Thursday. At least one home is destroyed.
Pasco County staff is going home-to-home to determine the extent of the damage. Luckily, no one is hurt.
Park management is working with a clean up team to remove the debris. They warn residents not to remove aluminum themselves; let the professionals deal with it.
One neighbor, Steve Reigler, heard several loud crashes around midnight and his wife looked outside and screamed. They saw a tree on fire and immediately called 911.
Linda Allen’s home is unlivable. They started hearing loud winds around 11:15 p.m. They woke up to several loud booms around midnight. Once it calmed down they walked out to find their lanai destroyed and part of their roof in the neighbor’s tree.
According to Pasco County officials, sheet metal strewn across the grounds and one golf cart was tipped over damaging the frame.
Residents don’t believe anyone was hurt and several people are getting help from the Red Cross. Individuals with damaged homes stayed with friends or relatives.
The line of storms that caused the damage has moved south, but Storm Team 8 Meteorologists expect scattered storms to develop throughout the day and generally push toward the east. See your full forecast.
Here are the latest numbers from Emergency Management as of 11:18 AM Friday – More than 60 homes were affected (less than major damage) in the early morning storm. Out of the 60 homes, 38 had minor damage.
