NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WESH) — Two more surfers suffered shark bites in New Smyrna Beach this weekend.
Volusia County Beach Safety Capt. Andrew Ethridge said a 21-year-old man from Longwood was bitten on the top of his foot around 11:30 a.m. Sunday near the jetty.
The injury, fortunately, was minor, and the man drove himself to a hospital.
Saturday around 5:30 p.m., a 32-year-old surfer from Port Orange was paddling on his surfboard near the Flagler Ave. beach approach when a shark bit him on his side. His injury was also minor. He declined an ambulance ride to a medical facility.
Capt. Etheridge said these are the 13th and 14th shark bites for the year in Volusia County.
The names of the injured surfers were not available Sunday.
