(WFLA) – Nicholas Brent Gibson is in custody for one murder, but the 32-year-old claims he has actually killed at least seven people. 8 On Your Side is digging into Gibson’s claims and uncovering his complicated criminal history.

According to the Miami Beach Police Department, Gibson is the suspect in a homicide that occurred in their jurisdiction at 1508 Michigan Avenue last month.

Detectives state the body was discovered on April 30, but they believe the crime occurred at least 10 days earlier.

The victim has been identified as 77-year-old Erik B. Stocker.

On May 5, Gibson was arrested in New York City in connection to this homicide.

Miami Beach Public Information Officer Ernesto Rodriguez said Gibson admitted to his involvement in murder of Stocker. He also allegedly made additional statements about his involvement in six other murders during earlier times in his life in Florida, Georgia and California.

Right now, as U.S. Marshal’s return Gibson to Florida, Miami Beach detectives are working with other law enforcement agencies to determine the credibility of Gibson’s statements.

According to police sources cited by the Daily Mail, one of Gibson’s alleged victims was a man from the Tampa Bay area.

Authorities have not confirmed that to 8 On Your Side.

“I can’t think of a case where someone ever came forward and confessed to serial killings before they were even a suspect,” said Dr. Bryanna Fox, a former FBI Special Agent.

Dr. Fox profiled suspects like Gibson during her time at the FBI.

Police records show Gibson was a violent sexual offender in Illinois.

In 2008, Gibson was also arrested in Blair County, Pennsylvania for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Court papers show he plead guilty to Statutory Sexual Assault.

“It really speaks to his narcissism or feeling like he’s above the law,” said Dr. Fox. “…willing to not abide by social norms.”

In addition to the two sex crimes, 8 On Your Side Investigates found that Gibson often failed to register as a sex offender in different states.

“That to me is actually a lot more indicative of his personality than even the crimes we previously discussed,” said Dr. Fox.

“It’s like he’s saying ‘the rules don’t apply to me.'”

8 On Your Side has reached out to several dozen law enforcement agencies across Tampa Bay to determine Gibson’s potential ties to our area. So far, approximately 10 agencies state they’ve had no documented interactions with Gibson.

Meantime, Fox said for now, she is not convinced he is a serial killer.

8 On Your Side will continue to follow this developing story.
