POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Polk County deputies are searching for two Bartow teens who detectives say went on a crime spree using guns that were stolen from an off-duty deputy’s car.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Mitchel O’Neal 17, and Jaccarion Gray, 18.

Investigators say friends of the teens, Traquavios McKenzie 19, and Deshawn Hobdy 18, stole a white work van on Monday, March 28 in Lake Alfred. They then went to Bartow where they burglarized five vehicles in one neighborhood. One of the vehicles was an unmarked Polk County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. During that burglary, detectives say Hobdy and McKenzie pried open a lock box inside the PCSO vehicle and removed an agency vest, an agency-issued Glock handgun, an agency issued Remington shotgun, a personal AR15 and other items.

The weapons and stolen van were then used during a crime spree.

At 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, detectives say McKenzie, Gray, and O’Neal attempted an armed robbery in Winter Haven. The trio used the stolen shotgun and fired into the victims’ vehicle.  There were no reported injuries. The suspects were seen in the stolen van during this incident.

At 1:59 am, on Tuesday, detectives say McKenzie, Gray, and O’Neal committed an armed robbery at a residence on the 4300 block of Scott Drive.  The victims cooperated giving up their personal property.  The suspects were again seen in the stolen van during this incident.

At 2:21 am on Tuesday, a PCSO supervisor observed the stolen van which appeared to be following a light blue Pontiac.  The supervisor attempted to pursue the van as the Pontiac traveled in a different direction.  The suspect inside the van fled on foot in the area 2901 Dudley Drive and the stolen van was recovered.  It is believed three suspects were in the Pontiac.

Hobdy and McKenzie were arrested after detectives identified them in surveillance video as they threw some of the stolen items into a Circle K dumpster near the Bartow neighborhood where they committed the burglaries.

Hobdy was charged with Armed Burglary, 2 counts of Grand Theft, 3 counts of Grand Theft with Firearm, 2 counts of Petit Theft, 4 counts of Burglary, Tampering with Evidence and Possession of Cannabis less than 20 grams.

McKenzie was charged with 2 counts Armed Robbery with Firearm, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Armed Burglary, 2 counts Grand Theft, 3 counts of Grand Theft of Firearm, 2 counts of Petit Theft, 4 counts of Burglary, and Tampering with Evidence.

Deputies are still looking for O’Neal and Gray, who have extensive criminal histories. They’re asking for the public’s help finding them. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to contact the PCSO at 863-298-6200.
